If you are researching Odoo free version limitations, the answer depends on what you mean by “free Odoo.” Odoo currently offers the One App Free plan on Odoo Online, while Odoo Community is the open-source edition that can be downloaded and self-hosted.
For startups and small businesses, the free plan can be an excellent way to test Odoo. However, companies planning a serious ERP implementation should understand where the free version becomes restrictive.
What Is Odoo One App Free?
Odoo’s One App Free plan costs $0 and provides one application with unlimited users on Odoo Online. Required dependencies of the selected application can also be included. For example, an application that technically depends on other Odoo applications may bring those dependencies into the free database.
This makes the free version useful for testing a single business process, but it is not designed to provide the complete integrated ERP experience most growing companies need.

1. You Are Limited to One Main App
The biggest limitation is that the free Odoo Online plan is built around one application.
A business may want CRM, Sales, Accounting, Inventory, Purchase, Project and HR working together. With One App Free, installing additional applications moves the database to a paid plan.
For a finance manager or business owner, this is important because the real value of Odoo comes from connecting multiple departments in one system.
2. External API Access Is Not Available
Businesses often need Odoo to communicate with Shopify, BigCommerce, ecommerce platforms, BI tools, payment systems or custom applications.
Odoo’s documentation confirms that external API access is available only with the Custom pricing plan, not One App Free or Standard.

3. Limited Customization Options
Odoo is highly customizable, but the free online plan is not intended for conventional custom development.
The Custom plan provides Odoo Studio, external API access and options for Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting.
